ULTRA RECLINED LOW BACK CAR SEAT WITHOUT HEADREST, FOR A FORMULA CAR DRIVING ANGLE

THE W3 - CAR SEAT

The W3 race seat is a reclined version of the W1i, making the driving position suitable for low formula race cars. The W3 has two edge cut options. The narrow 40cm edge cut allows the seat to fit in narrow cockpits. Three low profile seat belt harness holes are included, enabling use of a five or six point harness, which is strongly recommended with any reclined seat.

The low back W models are most suitable when a headrest is not practical. For example, when a vehicle where there is already a headrest support in existence.

The weight of a W3 with the backframe is approximately 3.6kg and 2kg without.

The W3 has a gloss black GRP front surface with the option of a two-panel set of Dinamica® suede covered pads.

The W3-40 version has the edges trimmed down to a maximum of 40cm to allow fitment between the gearbox tunnel and the door sill of narrow vehicles. We call this the “edges off” model.

The W3-44 has the rolled edge left on “edges on”, to give a more aesthetically pleasing look to the edge of the seat and is advised if you have the 44cm available.

The W3 is available as a single skin shell, or with a floor mountable backframe. The backframe consists of a second composite moulding bonded to the front skin, making the W3 a fully self-supporting rigid structure. Its four captive M8fittings are in the base of the seat as standard, or to special order the seat can be provided with side mounts, allowing the use of the Tillett 2° bracket sets.

KEY FEATURES

  • The W3 is the most reclined W seat, similar in its hip shape and fixings to the W1i, but is more suited to a formula car, due to its much lower driving position.
  • Body mirroring shape gives the driver full support, unhindered steering control and maintains ultimate comfort over long periods of time.
  • The W3 weight is approximately 2kg without the backframe and 3.6kg with the backframe. (Weight of seats can vary by 10%)
  • Low profile moulded seat belt harness holes included, enabling a five or six point race harness to be used.
  • The seat can accommodate a driver up to approximately 100kg with a 36inch jeans waist size.
  • Two edge cut options for reducing external widths across the leg area, “edges on” 44cm or “edges off” at 40cm. See images for visual understanding.
  • Custom brackets will need to be made by the customer to fit the single skin W3, as this specification does not have integrated fittings.
  • Available to order with a bonded composite backframe. With this recommended additional feature, you can fix the seat directly to the floor using the embedded fixing points in the base (BM) of the seat. Or, as an option you can order the side mount version (SM) enabling the use of the Tillett 2° brackets.
  • One finish available to order, black gloss GRP front.
  • Does not require padding, allowing ultimate feedback from the car, essential for a competition seat. Additionally, there is zero water absorption due to not requiring any foam covering, making the seat extremely practical for an open top race car.
  • Additional covered panel options are available if required. A suede panel set will add approximately 1kg.
  • All seat panels are customisable, contact the office directly for further information and prices
  • All Tillett car seats are premium quality products designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom.

Features
1. Factors to consider

There are many factors to consider when choosing a new kart seat.
If you have had a seat in the past. Do you know the size and shape?

2. Choose a Shape

Shape does not make as much difference as the teams would have you believe, but they will be nervous of miss positioning the seat and may want you to use the shape they are used to fitting.

This is fine until the seat is not the right fit for you. An ill-fitting seat can cause a driver to damage their body or hang on the wheel, neither are good for ultimate performance.

Different shapes put in the chassis with the drivers back in exactly the same place, made with the same materials will pretty much handle the same.
That said a significant angle change of the back will alter the handling especially for bigger driver and this should be looked at separately.
